Having the right documents ready is the single biggest factor in how quickly your company is registered in Bahrain. This checklist covers what each shareholder and manager provides, what is added when a shareholder is a company, and the mistakes that most often cause delays.
For each shareholder and for the manager
- A clear copy of the passport.
- A passport-size photo.
- A personal address.
Use a scan that shows the whole page clearly, and check the passport’s expiry date before you start, because a passport close to expiry can cause problems later, for example with a visa.
If a shareholder is a company
When the owner is a company rather than a person, you also need its incorporation certificate, its memorandum and a board resolution approving the investment. These documents are attested and, where required, legalised for use in Bahrain. Requirements vary slightly by country, so confirm the exact steps for the country where the company was formed.
Details about your new company
- Your proposed company name, ideally with two or three alternatives.
- A short description of the business activities.
- The business address documents, for a physical office or a compliant virtual office.
The company documents we prepare for you
The Memorandum and Articles of Association are drafted and notarised as part of the process, and for a WLL the capital deposit and bank letter are arranged. You do not need to write these yourself. Our How to Register a Company in Bahrain guide shows where each document is used.
Registering from abroad
Most of the process can be handled remotely with a notarised power of attorney. Signing some documents or opening the bank account may need a short visit or an authorised signatory, so ask which steps apply to you. See Company Formation in Bahrain for how we manage this.
How long does the document stage take?
Security clearance for foreign shareholders usually takes 3 to 5 working days, and most straightforward registrations complete within about two weeks of a full set of documents. Regulated activities take longer because of external approvals.
Common document mistakes that cause delays
- Unclear or cropped passport copies.
- Corporate documents that have not been attested or legalised.
- An address document that the authorities do not accept.
- A company name too close to an existing one, with no alternatives ready.
- Choosing an activity that needs an extra approval, and finding out late.
